Application for Health Underwriting

Q3 builds an application which facilitates Insurance Underwriters to perform underwriting of health insurance policies.

Q3's global sourcing model gives the maximum benefit to customers in terms of cost savings, improved quality, access to highly talented professionals, flexibility of operations and reduced time to market.

Company Profile

The client is a leading health insurance provider.

Business Situation

The client had some existing applications which contain the proposer information for individual/family and group insurance. Client wanted to develop an Underwriting Management application which should import the proposer information from existing applications and send back the underwriting results to the existing system after processing. As a part of the proposed system, the client also required some background services to be developed which would perform certain automated time-based tasks.

Challenges

  • The client wanted to use entity framework with Oracle. The challenge was that Entity framework is not supported by Oracle implicitly, and required building of custom interfacing logic to make them work together.
  • The timelines were very aggressive due to the client's business goals that depended on the completion of this product.
  • Authentication was to implemented through Active directory.
  • Data needs to be pulled and pushed from the existing application, which was a challenge as the external application provided prebuilt services, and our design was required to be molded according to those services.

Technical Solution

Q3 came up with a dedicated team of Senior Developers and QA experts to provide a technical solution for Client's requirements. The team of Developers, along with the Architecture Team, analyzed the requirements, designed the application as per Client's requirements, and finally came up with a solution that ensured all needs and objectives were covered.

Q3 designed the application and database architecture. Q3 developed the interfacing component to use LINQ with Oracle. For Active directory authentication Q3 used LDAP and for query purpose LINQ was used. Q3 developed a windows web-service to pull the data from the existing system in XML format and a windows service to push the data in CSV format. The application is designed to support different browsers.

Customer Speaks

blockquoteIn this difficult economic environment, Symfo decided to outsource one of its most critical developments to Q3 Tech. We were definitely reluctant doing so at the beginning of the project. But rapidly we understood that Q3 had the necessary skills and professionalism to bring the project to a successful realization. It was not always easy primarily because of the differences of culture. However once we understood each other, things went much better. We also understood that such a difficult project needed intense communications between Q3 and our company. Our company works on two time zones (Europe and East Coast North America) and we were amazed by the availability of the Project Manager and his team. It really contributed improving communications between us.

Phase I of our product is now ready and we are quite happy with it. We are definitely ready to start Phase II with Q3 and we highly recommend them.blockquote
