Case Study - Launch of Marketplace in India

Launch of Marketplace in India

Q3's global sourcing model gives the maximum benefit to customers in terms of cost savings, improved quality, access to highly talented professionals, flexibility of operations and reduced time to market.

Company Profile

Client has an online shopping portal with the world’s biggest selection of books. It carries over 1.5 million titles. In order to sell the 1.5 million titles, client has created various "online storefronts" on websites such as Amazon.com, Ebay.com and Abebooks.com. These websites have an enormous client base which allows smaller, reputable businesses, exposure to more buyers and gain overall exposure in the online shopping segment, while providing their own customer’s the opportunity to shop at the best price.

Business Situation

Launch of Client’s India Marketplace started way back in early 2006 which was the result of hard earned efforts of the team. Client developed a marketplace, created for a solution to the problems for Indian Market.

Client Marketplace was launched with a focus on medium/large-sized sellers – sellers that carry a few thousands to hundreds of thousands of books.

Solution

The Q3 team was involved in all the different stages of the business:

  • contacting the publishers
  • following up with them
  • collecting the data
  • formatting the data
  • uploading the titles from their paper catalogs
  • creating their vendor accounts
  • creating and formulating the help document for the vendors

We gathered seller’s information and the seller’s in-stock file and created the seller’s account in the database. The database holds approximately 53070 titles.

The team at Q3 took part in The Delhi Book fair which was held last year from September 16, 2006 – September 24, 2006. This show was a success to the effect that we got lots of signups, exposure and the customers willing to buy books from the site, sellers eager to sell books online.

We are working parallelly on collecting data from vendors to gather bibliographic details and also to turn major vendors as sellers. Number of Indian titles in database were uploaded, number of valid titles from the internal accounts were uploaded and as of now we have around 30000 – 50000 titles of 14 Indian publishers/distributors still in the process of refinement and upload to the database. Approximately, 50000 – 75000 titles are in the pipeline for sellers’ data.

Benefits

  • Provide a channel for Indian publishers’ presence on client marketplace.
  • Implementation of cost effective solutions.

Customer Speaks

blockquoteFaced with the need for more resources, we were initially hesitant about how it would work to outsource some development work. Q3 has been an ideal partner; we now think of them as an extension of our development team, and appreciate all their efforts to learn about our people and our products. They have been excellent at seeking clarification on design questions, and have increased the knowledge and depth of their team in response to our needs. We particularly appreciated their willingness to document their work using our internal systems, saving us administration time. We would not hesitate to recommend Q3 to anyone seeking a reliable, knowledgeable and conscientious development partner.blockquote
